Try LinkedIn’s Messaging Feature

Can I be real with you for a second? It’s tough out there. With all sorts of competitors clamoring for your target audience’s eyes and dollars, landing a sale is no easy feat. There are all sorts of reasons why someone might choose a different company over yours. Don’t let inaccessibility be one of them!

Imagine this: Johnny’s a business owner catching up on his LinkedIn feed. He notices his connection liked a post from an accounting firm. “Hey,” he thinks, “I need an accountant.”  Intrigued, Johnny clicks through to their company page and pokes around a bit. Next thing he knows, he’s reading all about the firm, finding great information in the company’s latest posts, and realizing this firm might be exactly what he’s looking for. “Great!” he thinks, “How do I reach out?” If that accounting firm is leveraging LinkedIn wisely, Johnny won’t even have to leave Linkedin to get in touch.

With LinkedIn’s Pages Messaging feature, users can message companies as easily as they can other people. Smart companies make it as easy as possible for prospects to get connected.  So instead of making curious prospects like Johnny navigate from your company page to your website and then to your contact page where they’ll send a message into the void, let them start a conversation right from where they discover you—on LinkedIn.

If you haven’t already turned on your company page messaging feature, what’s stopping you? Here are three reasons why you should give it a try.

1. Better brand experiences

Any UX designer will tell you that the last thing you want to do is frustrate your user by burying important information behind too many clicks. As the example above illustrates, Pages Messaging can build brand equity simply by making it easier for users to find what they’re looking for. Simplicity and delight go a long way toward making your audience choose you.

2. Personal brand interactions

LinkedIn messages are already a comfortable and casual-yet-professional medium for most LinkedIn users. In the same way that two colleagues might catch up or set up a coffee chat via LinkedIn messages, a company can relate to interested prospects in a personal, friendly way. The opportunity goes both ways — pages can message individuals and individuals can strike up a conversation with brands, too. I don’t have to tell you that trust is a *huge* factor in making a sale, and a personable, friendly LinkedIn conversation is a great step in that direction. It’s practically the definition of social selling.

3. Lead generation

People who message your company on LinkedIn obviously have enough interest in who you are and what you do that they took the time to write you. That makes Pages Messaging a great source of new leads you might not have captured if you didn’t have the feature turned on. At the same time, companies can use Pages Messaging to connect with already-engaged users who follow their page and/or engage with their content. This great new feature helps to put companies in the right place at the right time to generate new leads.

An Important Note: LinkedIn is slowly rolling out this feature to users. If you don’t have access yet, you will soon! Keep an eye out so you can take advantage of it as soon as possible.

LinkedIn’s Pages Messaging feature is a great tool for savvy businesses looking to connect with their customers in a personal, approachable way. Get a leg up against the competition and turn on the setting for your Company Page.

And while we’re on the topic of being approachable, I have to ask—what does your LinkedIn profile say about your company? Is it a good reflection of the kind of professionalism your customers expect? I hate to break it to you, but you can’t hide behind a good company page and expect to win on LinkedIn. Your profile—and your team’s—matter too.
