Anatomy of a Win: How Michelle Hamilton Uses Video to Create an Engaging Online Presence
May 30, 2023Here at McMillion Consulting, we love cheering clients on and celebrating their wins. Our Anatomy of a Win series showcases stories from professionals who experienced a notable business victory as a result of implementing a tool or strategy they learned from our work together.
Michelle Hamilton is committed to developing long-lasting relationships. She’s always been a natural connector of people, but when it came to creating and nurturing connections online, she knew she could become even better.
Michelle learned about me through an online training course I hosted with Julie Brown. After attending the session, she jumped at the opportunity to sharpen her skills and process. I was thrilled to hear that Michelle put her learning into practice right away and garnered a win so quickly.
By applying several tools and strategies from the webinar, Michelle saw truly fantastic results. Let’s take a closer look at how she learned how to use video to connect with people on LinkedIn in a way that feels welcoming and distinctly her.
The Challenge
At the time of the webinar, Michelle was just about to start an exciting new role as the Vice President of Business Development at Vessel Architecture. She saw this change as an opportunity both to announce her position and build new connections.
“I strive toward warm engagement in person and wanted to introduce myself online in a little bit different way,” Michelle said.
Ultimately, she sought to interact with other LinkedIn members authentically. One reason I love LinkedIn is that it allows professionals to put their best foot forward while still expressing their unique stories. I was thrilled to see that Michelle accomplished just that.
The Strategy
Throughout the webinar, Michelle learned how to incorporate video into her LinkedIn presence. We equipped her with ways to portray her truest self with confidence.
“It helped me to understand how to be more ‘yourself’ and less stiff on a professional social media site,” Michelle said.
We then took the principles for leveraging video and applied them to a LinkedIn routine that equipped Michelle to continue creating and nurturing connections. She gained not only a better understanding of ways to interact with LinkedIn users but also consistent daily and weekly steps to increase her exposure.
As a result of our work together, Michelle crafted a beautiful video announcing her new role. It showcased her creative side and created a clear call to action.
The Win
Michelle took what she learned and applied it with great success. Within just 48 hours of posting her announcement video, she set up 18 appointments. Some of her responses came through LinkedIn, while others reached out to her directly via phone or email instead.
“This was just my third day at a new job, so it was a great way to kick off a new role for me as well as a new role for my organization,” Michelle said.
What I love about Michelle’s video is that it showcases her personally as well as professionally. Her approach humanizes her and gives people an entry point for connection. Michelle reported that her videos have sparked great in-person networking conversations and generated more social media exposure for her company as well.
I can’t wait to see how Michelle continues to flourish in her role and use what she learned to mirror her offline warmth online.
